Whirlpool will not agitate or spin, help theis newbie pls.!

I am guessing on the age, am housesitting. The washer suddenly stopped working last night. Have checked it through the cycles and find it fills and drains fine, and the lid switch works, but it will not spin or agitate. I have the external vane off (or whatever the plastic part around the center agitator thing is called) and now am thinking about taking the bolt out of the top and looking in there. The motor seems to be working fine and during those parts of the cycle that would normal be spin or agitate, it makes a slightly metallic sound but no movement in that center shaft. Can you tell me what to do please? Thanks so much!

la5525xtn0 is the model number; thank you!

You may want to speak with a certified building contractor.

Gene.

Thanks for your reply Gene. I am a building contractor, and I have contacts with insulation people & they say I could probably use fibreglass wool or the solid pink stuff, but I was hoping someone from the appliance world could give me some more detail. I would think this is fairly straightforward spec. and someone knows shat it is. If not, I’m just going to use a cotton batting. Thanks.
