Kenmore Laundry Center, washer will fill but will not agitate or spin, but it does drain when the timer is moved to that position. The motor hums but will not turn and shuts down after overload. The motor will run when the drive belt is removed. Could this be a lid/lock switch or timer?
I don’t know which one to order or maybe both could somebody please tell me what the problem may be. ![]()
This does not sound like a lid switch or timer problem, but it does sound like your transmission has failed.
If the pulley will not turn easily then the probable solution is to replace the transmission, but given the age of the machine a new unit may be more advisable.
It is possible the problem is with something jammed in the drive/tub area but not very likely. If you want to check that out here is a service manual for your unit.
Thanks for your reply, well I changed out the motor capacitor with no response. The transmission turns without the drive belt by ccw but not cw, should I be able to turn by hand in both directions? If so I guess you are correct and the tranny has failed. Trying to save some $$$ by fixing
this thing because I’ve had no problems with it until now.
Thanks Again
Yeah, if it will not turn CW then the transmission is almost certainly jammed and a new machine is really the best bet.
