Washer stops about halfway through wash cycle going by the dial. I started the washer again by moving the dial but it stops again where it seems it should be spinning in preperation to rinse. Will not spin and rinse. I already ordered part no. 3948357A but this did not solve the problem. I need to know if I should send this part back and what will solve the problem.

Based on the information available I would suspect the timer has a damaged contact in the motor circuit in the spin increment.
I would want to know : when the dial indicates spin does the motor hum or attempt to run? if so , suspect clogged or seized pump and possibly a malfunction in the motor. if motor makes no hum noise or no attempt to run, suspect timer and or wiring harness connections

There is no motor noise. It just stops. As I told you, we have a new timer installed and it acts just the same. Any other ideas? If it is not the timer, I need to get that sent back.

you have the same symptoms with the original and a replacement timer(s) and the motor does not run or make noise in the spin selection on the timer. If this is correct I would have to suspect a loose connection or broken wire in the wiring harness between the timer and motor or an open contact in the motor, this however (the motor) is not likely as the motor will run in the wash selection, but is possible in rare occasions that the motor will run in one direction and not the other.
Di you check the lid switch on the top right.

How could I test that when it never drains or goes into spin cycle?
If it fails to click when you close the lid, it’s bad.

We took the front off the washer (and may never get it put back on), I can see where the little plastic thing goes through to push another thing down. Then there are wires going from it, but it does not make a clicking sound and I don’t think ever has made a noise except the sound of the lid closing. Thanks for trying to help me.
Thanks so much, Richappy. My son tested the lid sensor and that was the problem. I was just ready to haul it out and begin to look for a new washer and dryer. This washer and dryer is a stack set. I really didn’t want to replace them. Thanks again.
