Cleaning cycle killed our KitchenAid Superba double oven, help?

I have purchased the parts from a local parts store and am preparing to remove the oven. The thermal fuse was clearly easy to replace but I am now trying to figure out how to take the door off the oven to pull it out and replace the other one. Any pointers on removing the door? THANK YOU!!!

Never mind…just found users guide online. http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Use%20and%20Care%20Guide%20-%204450571.pdf

Wish me luck on the rest!

I have replaced the thermal fuse in the control panel as well as the thermal shutdown control fuse. Upon turning the breaker back on I am now receiving an error code of PF-27. ANY help is appreciated. Everything has been put back together! ARRRGGGHHHHHHH! I was so impressed with myself! :frowning:
~Carrie

Update: Receiving alternating PF-27 and F2-EO error messages. I understand that the PF-27 says I need an entirely new control board. F2-EO means keypad is not connected. Where do I ensure that the keypad is connected?

Open the control panel and check how the control panel ribbon cable is plugged onto the control board.

Gene, I had a Kitchenaid cleaning failure as noted in your post w/ a (KEMS208DSS11) . I replaced both the thermal fuse and the line fuse as shown in your post for this problem. Now, my unit powered up with the error code E1 F2. This error is for a poor connection for the keypad. I have reseated the keypad ribbon several times and checked all the other connections with a meter. No luck. I feel I have a board issue yet do not know which of the two boards is bad. Can you guide me to my next step?

The model number you posted does not come up. Verify and repost it please.

Sorry, KEBS208DSS11

Open the control panel. Remove the keypad ribbon cable at the control board. Check the tracks in the ribbon cable for a hairline cracks, using a magnifying glass.

Clean the ribbon cable with a pencil eraser.

Clean the connector on the control board using electronics contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Do not reconnect till it drys.

Reconnect everything and give it a try.

Gene, I have done what you suggested here with no response. I have no action on the keypad yet the clock works. Am I at a point where I need to replace a board? Is it a potential casualty of the overheating before the fuses blew? It looks like there are two separate boards; the keypad sandwiched between the control panel frame and the computer board. I would guess the keypad would be the problem here.

I have a Kitchen Aid Superba Mod KEMC307KSS05, SERIAL # XT0702305 – it does not heat up. The display works, but after setting it, it just says Lo and stays that way. I cannot hear a fan go on either. I did have a repairman look at it a while ago and he tried to replace the thermal fuse in the front and said that did not work and told me I would have to replace the whole control board and it was going to cost about $550. I am trying to do a little research to see what else I can try first. It sounds like maybe try the thermal fuse in the back of the oven and a new blower? Any ideas here to help save me $100s would be greatly appreciated? Thank you.

Does the Broil work?

There are two fans in the oven: the cooling fan and the convection fan. Which one did not work?

You have to have a simple multimeter to perform the troubleshooting.

The same problem I have read about. Used self cleaning cycle. Cycle finished and then nothing. No power. Flip breaker, that is fine. upper oven door, the one i was cleaning, was locked. Took advice from Gene, got door unlocked. Model number is KEBC208KSS02. Now, I intend to take Gene’s advice and replace the control thermal fuse and oven shutdown thermal fuse. I have 1 problem. I am not able to locate the control thermal fuse. Anyone has any help. Also, does anyone know if Kitchenaid has stepped up to take care of this problem? Any recalls? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is on the top right of the stove, just behind the control panel; requires the oven to be pulled out about 6 to 8 inches, and the protective shield removed. Just changed one on my son’s, just like on mine. Sure sounds like it is the problem. We have the new version and the problem is solved by a different ventiallation flow. Long story.

teocjr Thank you very much for the information. I actually found the control thermal fuse. What I am not able to find is the shut down thermal fuse. And, I am not able to find the parts. Who did you order your parts from. Please let me know.

ApplianceProParts. Thermal fuse (if blown, the control panel is completely dead; about 4 inches long, pencil shaped, encased in pliable clear plastic; top right, behind control panel) part no. AP3777386 (mfg. no. 44556654); the only other fuse I have written about is the thermostatic fuse, AP 3879224 (mfg. no. 9759242); disc-shaped, about the diameter of a quarter, located on the back, center of the oven; must pull out the entire oven to get to it; easy to replace. The first was around 11.50; the second $36. Plus shipping of course.

jmclain09,

The oven shut down fuse is located on the back of the oven and it’s shown as #37 on the diagram.

Hey Gene: Thank you very much. I went to buy the part and was told I needed to purchase the entire control panel board. There is a part on my control panel board that looks very similar to the fuse you posted and it is on the right hand side of the control panel It has a black, dark grayish wire with a orange/reddish connector. At the base it is connected into a white block with 5 other wires. I do not see a way to remove the wire from the white block to replace it. Do I need to splice the wire and the connect the new fuse or do i just rip it from the base. Let me know how to get it out. If I can do that, it appears the part you suggested will work. At least I want to give it a shot as opposed to spending $230+ for the entire control panel.

Again, thank you so much for your help.

Hello All,

First- thank you to those who have posted help regarding this topic. Before I order parts, I would be grateful to get confirmation of which to order.

Model: KEBC208KSS02

Problem: Completely dead (no lights, nothing) and locked after cleaning cycle.

Questions:

1. Should I try the inline thermal fuse first (since it’s easiest and cheapest)?

2. Judging by the picture, I presume I need the 248 degree inline thermal fuse – can anyone help confirm? [Part number: AP3879224](http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch.aspx?pn_=AP3777386"]Part number: AP3777386 or Part Number: AP3591485

3. Is there a way to test the fuse(s)?

4. If it’s advisable to get the other fuses, can any one confirm that this is the correct fuse for my model >

5. Finally – are there other parts I would be wise to get such as the control board, the other fuse at the top / back, or cooling blower?

Thankyou all again for your insight and help.

I have a repair scheduled for tomorrow. Can’t do this myself.

I need my self clean to work, and everyone here says that after the fuses are replaced, don’t use the self clean again.

I also read somewhere that a thermostat can be installed so that the self clean can work…

Any thoughts?

Well, I ordered the fuses and the fan and replaced them all. Once I did that the oven would go on, but after a minute or two would stop heating up and gave me an error code indicating that the connection between the keypad and the control panel was bad. So I checked online and everyone said I needed to replace the keypad. Unfortunately, my oven is about 12 years old and the keypad for my model isn’t made any more. I checked everywhere, but finally gave in and bought a new oven.

This time we got a Bosch single-oven. We’ve run the self-cleaning a couple times so far (I want to be sure it doesn’t kill the oven before the warranty ends!) and everything’s working fine. I still can’t believe running the self-clean cycle ended up costing me about $1500, but that’s the breaks. I hope you have a better experience and get it repaired!

Hi,

I have Kitchenaid Model # KEBC208KSS02, with this same issue. Died during Self Cleaning of Upper Oven.

No control panel lights or anything, Breaker was not thrown, but of course I reset it anyway.

I have pulled apart the oven based on all the good information in this thread, and have found and removed the Thermal fuse that goes from the Control Panel to a grey wire.

It looks almost identical to the picture of part# AP3777386 that you suggested for others on this thread. When I go to that part page though and enter my model number into the compatibality check box it tells me this is not the right part number for my model.

When I look at all the parts available for my model # I do not see this part.

Can you please guide me to the right part number to replace this part for my model number.

Thanks,

Todd.
