I have an 18 year old Whirlpool washer that stopped working. It sounded like a bearing was going during the wash cycle before it stopped completeley. It tries to start and then stops, so I am guessing the bearing has frozen the drive. The question is, after 18 years, is it worth fixing this washer? Because of my physical incapacities I cannot fix it myself and so would need to call a repair service. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Could the Whirlpool be sold? What would you replace it with for a couple of senior citizens? We wash one load every two to three weeks, so it does build up, but there are only two of us.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Bearings do not make noise in these direct drive washers, probably something in the tub or in the pump causing the noise.
It’s probably worth fixing as these are dependable washers.
