Well, here is another self-clean story…
My Kitchen Aid Superba (kgsc308lss0) slide-in oven/range shutdown in the middle of the self-clean cycle. After pulling the unit out I discovered that the power cord had melted where it was making contact with the back panel. I’m going to assume this happened because when the kitchen was remodeled recently, the granite guy removed the the metal vent piece at the back of the cooktop and extended the the granite across behind the range instead.
I opened the control panel at the front of the cooktop and found two identical looking thermal fuse type items. I believe one is the thermal fuse and the other is some sort of fixed thermostat? I cannot tell which is which. The one on the right has no continuity and the left does have continuity. Can anyone tell me what these two parts are, which is which, and how they should be tested?
Are there any other tests I should do prior to reassembling?
Any ideas on what to do about the missing vent? Is the only alternative to replace the vent piece and remove the granite behind the cooktop?
One other thing. The cooktop gasket is somewhat mangled across the front where the control panel mates to the top. Does the whole top need to be disassembled to make this repair? Is there anything else I need to order beside the gasket itself?
