Thought the house was on fire…electrical smell. I had washed a small load a earlier, but the load finished okay. I was busy in other end of house so could have happen during this load and I didn’t catch it then?? When finally smelled and traced to washer, I lifted lid and smelt the electrical burning smell I was looking for.
Took front panel off and motor was very warm. Yellow wire covering looked a little odd. Attempted to run another small load. Everything worked up until it drained and started to do the final spin cycle after the rinse and it wouldn’t spin. Noticed the motor was not spinning either. Changed control setting to another agitation cycle point and nothing. Took a screw driver and gave the motor wheel a push, then reset control to spin cycle and it worked for a moment then stopped again.
Called my aged repairman. He advised it was either the bearings in motor or transmission. Advised I buy a new one and not replace. A friend told me about your site and said I should inquire as may be something other than this that I could fix myself.
Could this be something other than bearing or transmission?
Thanks!
