Washer knob just spins

The cycle selection knob on our washing just spins rather than catch and move the selector around to the different cycles. We can still pull the knob out to start the machine, but have to directly move the disc with the arrow on it to change cycles.

I have tried to pull the knob off to see if I can replace it, but don’t want to pull too hard in fear of breaking the whole assembly.

What do I need to do to fix it?

Thank you!!!

Hi.

You should take the knob off and check what is the problem. To remove the knob pull it out, then remove the knob clip, holding the knob from underneath. Then check the plastic gears at the knob and the timer itself.
