washer won't spin or drain

While doing laundry last night, I found the washer off with the knob between rinse and spin, pulled out so it should have been on. I tried to start it again from there, but it did nothing. I unplugged it & tried it again, still nothing. Checked all the wiring and took all the clothes out. I managed to get it to fill with water again on the rinse cycle, but when it should have started spinning, it stopped, hummed for a minute, and died again. I cannot get it do anything but fill with water. Any suggestions?? Also, is there a way to get it to drain the water sitting in the basin? I emptied with a cup and a bucket earlier, but I really don’t want to do that again if I don’t have to. Thanks!

Remove the [pump](http://www.repairave.com/washerrepair_wpl_cabinet.asp"]cabinet[/URL], remove the [URL="http://www.repairave.com/washerrepair_wpl_pump.asp) and see if the washer will work. You have to bypass the lid switch to have it work on the spin cycle.

Post your findings, please.

Gene.

How can I fix it?

If you have a drain on the floor, you can lower the hose down into it.
