I have a Kenmore Refrigerator model # 106.57577791 the water dispencer is no lomger working but the ice maker is, would this be the water valve? is there a way you can test it. I had Sears change this valve out 5 years ago but cannot remember what for. Any Ideas.
Alternate the electrical connections on your water valve solenoid, not the water line connections. If the valve is good, you will get water dispensed out the door when the ice maker calls for water. But your probably going to have a bad valve. Though there are other things, too many to list, that could also cause dispenser not to work correctly. You might save yourself some money if you have a qualified refrigerator repair service inspect and diagnose your refrigerator.

Ok so after I switch the elect connection and I hear the ice maker call for water, do I have to push on the water dispencer like I’m tyrying to get a glass of water or will it just come out of the water dispencer on it’s own?
this test is to see if the valve is indeed bad for the water dispenser. dont do anything more than i instructed…if you get water out the door after running my test, you dont have a problem with your valve, you have a problem with the electrics inside the door for the dispenser. If you dont get water, you have a bad valve.

Well I did try to disconnect the water line before the it goes into the door and got nothing, but also could it be that the water bottle under the drawer in the frigerator could be frozen?
I will try to switch the electrical connections as you described and post my findings. Thanks for the help…
Ok so If I want to check to see if I have 115v on going to the water valve solonoid for the water tap, would I take my voltage meter unplug the electrical connector at the water valve and while I press the water tap arm, should I have 115 volts? If this is the right way then I got no voltage. so now what would be wrong.
Also did the wire connection switch around and got nothing out of the water tap.
I didnt want to presume that you had a volt meter, or i would have told you to test with that in the first place. Put the electrical connections as they orginally were, before i had you switch them. place your voltmeter across the terminals for the water side solenoid. Actuate the water dispenser, you should get 120 volts. If you still dont have any voltage, you have either a wiring problem, or the switch that is actuated when you depress the lever has failed.
Oh, and I looked up your model #, but that is not a valid number, did you get that off the model number tag inside the fresh food?

Yes that is what I did and go no voltage… Sooo my next question is how hard is it to change the switch?

My model number is 10657575791
106.57575791 is not a valid number either. My first instinct is to say it shouldnt be that much of a challenge for you, the fact you have a voltmeter tells me your pretty mechanically inclined. but just to be safe, disconnect from power before doing anything.

This is a valid number when I look up parts on your web site, I think you need to drop the . after the 106 so it my frige is a Kenmore model number 10657575791.
So lets start over, yes I am very mechanically inclined but when it comes to electricity well thats a whole new world, don’t get me wrong I can check continuity and voltage but I cant read a wiring diagram.
So I did what you suggested by switching the wires on the water valve solonoid and my results were negitive.
I checked for voltage at the plug (Where it connects to the water valve) while the dispenser was being pressed results were negitive. So is this telling me that the dispenser switch has gone bad? If so how do I change it and what is the part number.
Thanks for all of your help.
