Whirlpool LA5668XTW1 won't spin

Hi:

I have a Whirlpool washing machine, Model LA5668XTW1, Serial # CC0840020. Purchased in 1993. A few days ago I noticed that the agitator didn’t seem to be turning. I shifted some clothes around and it seemed to be OK. Not sure that has anything to do with the problem that surfaced today but basically we noticed today that a finished load was very wet. I tried to rerun the spin cycle and found that the machine doesn’t seem to spin. It pumps the water out but no spin. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

The most likely problem when there is no agitation and no spin (drain ok)is a faulty [clutch](http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-whirlpool-direct-drive-285753a-ap3963893.html"]motor coupler[/URL]. If it agitates ok, drains ok but doesn’t spin, the most likely culprit is a faulty [URL="http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-clutch-assembly-285785-ap3094537.html), assuming the motor is running when in spin mode.

Hi:

Thanks very much. I ordered and installed the part based on the video on your site and everything is working. I detected what seems like a slight burning smell at the end of the cycle. Is this to be expected with new parts?

Hi - the motor coupler seems to have done the trick. Thanks. Now I appear to have a new problem - the upper part of the agitator doesn’t turn during cycle. I can turn it freely with my hand. It worked the first cycle or two after replacing coupler (enough that there was a fair amount of splash with lid open) but not now. Perhaps the newly invigorated coupler was too much for the old agitator?

It should be free to turn in the clockwise direction but not counterclockwise. If it does, you problably just need new dogs.

Well I couldn’t teach the old dogs a new trick but the new dogs seem to have done the trick. Thanks again!!
