Whirlpool LXR7244JQ0 | Won't spin or drain

I have a Whirlpool LXR7244JQ0 Top Loading Washer. From what I understand it is a direct drive washer.

The problem occurred middle cycle, while rinsing. The unit failed to drain and spin. All the washer would do when I attempted to set the timer to drain/spin was making a clicking/grinding noise. However, the washer will add more water for the rinse cycle when set to rinse.

After manually draining the tub, I tore the cabinet off and made sure the pump was clear and spun freely. I also checked the tub drain and all the hoses for obstruction (they were all clear).

I am at a loss for what I should do next. I do not have experience with washers. Should I get my ohm meter and test for resistance? If so, where should I test? Should I unmount the motor and check the connection to the transmission?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I know I can fix this myself, I just need some help. Thank you!

Here is the link to the Appliance Parts Pros page for my model of washer.

First I tested the lid-closed sensor. It read correctly.

Then I went down and pulled the pump and motor off to check the motor coupling. The motor coupling was fine, but I noticed that this small black cylinder to the right of the motor had a faulty connection.

On further inspection, it seemed like one of the prongs was broken off. Am I correct in assuming this is the capacitor?

Could this be whats causing the motor to fail to spin/drain?

I circled what I believe to be the capacitor in red.

This is what I think the part number is AP3866194

Yes, that is the capacitor and it is used for starting the motor so if it has a faulty connection or the capacitor is bad, the motor may not start. Should be two red wires connected to it. You have the correct part number for that.
