Refrigerator not cooling, but freezer is working

The freezer is working, but the refrigerator is not cooling. We cleaned the coils, but the fan continues to run. The temperature in the refrigerator was at 55 degrees. We then shut off the fan, and it has cooled down to 45.

It seems to be the fan? Please direct us to the problem

you cleaned the coils? is it frosted? if it is frosted then usually one of the defrost components has failed, maybe the defrost timer, defrost heater, or defrost thermostat.

No the coils weren’t frosted. They were dusty, and we vaccummed them.

I thought that the temp had gone down once we turned off the fan, but I may have read the temp wrong, because I just checked it and it is at 57 degrees.

I have been having same type problem for the last few days with my Kenmore 10652702100 side by side. My friend in the appliance repair business said if the freezer is working Ok and the fridge is not then it is usually the air diffuser. This part is located at the top of the refridgerator side on the divider between the two sides. I haven’t replaced mine yet but think he is correct as I can’t detect any airflow from this unit.

I have an 8 yr old GE s by s and I have repalced the heater/defrost element a 2nd time. Freezer makes ice but the refere sits on 50-60 degs 'sup with that?

I have almost 2 yr old Sears 25’ Elite double door bottom freezer Model # 596.76532500. Shortly after it went out of warranty the frig & freezer would periodically warm up for no reason. Contacted Sears -but they would not stand behind only wanted money. Ck’d & cleaned bottom coils -no response. Ck’d for frost - found some minor frosting - cleaned disconnected frig and reconnected severla times - Frig started to cool down. Previous failures included both frig & freezer would warm up - this time only upper frig area… This happens almost every few months - no apparent reason. My previous frig was a 20yr old Whirlpool -that never had probelm…:frowning: Any ideas.

Hello,
I have a side by side Fridgidare FRS24WRC. I had a problem a few months ago where the fridge didn’t cool at all but the freezer seemed to work. I checked the condenser coils in the freezer and performed a manual defrost. and it seemed to work fine de icing the coils. The refrigerator side seems to cool just enough to keep food but the condenser seems to run all the time.
There is verry little cool air coming from the diffuser and the fan on the freezer side seems to be working fine.

any Ideas why the box continues to run. It shuts off every two minutes then starts again for approximately 10 min.

I am having the same problem with a Whirlpool Model# GS6SHEXNS00. I found the coils frosted, the indoor air control was frozen, and I removed the louver cab and it had frost inside. I cant find the defrost control or timer, can someone please help me find the part s for the defrost heater, controller, etc.
Thanks,
Ted

Hi Ted,

Perform the troubleshooting as described in the tech sheets and post the results.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?diagram_id=955699&&model_id=5149831

I have a GE TBX 2I and the freezer is ice cold, however the fridge is super warm (65-70.) I am concerned because I don’t have any ice anywhere, however there is condensation that is building up. I pulled off the panel in the freezer, no ice. No ice on coils, no ice in vents, no ice on fans…

What am I to do?

Mike

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it’s open.

Was this handled properly? http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/33924-ge-oven-clock-not-working.html

Seems like you are rewarding bad behavior.

His mummy may have done this so he just continues and never learns.

But my interest is piqued so I will jump in and see how it develops.
Hope that is OK with Gene.

I was the guy they sent in when the S**t hit the fan, had a boss that did not like confrontation. Some of them actually became my best customers.

I think this was handled exactly right. In the face of rather extreme provocation all involved said the right things; I do not know if I would have been so gracious and professional. (My wife says I would not, but then she would know, wouldn’t she).

With respect to the diagnosis and suggested repair, I think it is absolutely correct and I cannot imagine a tech who would disagree with replacing the board. I mean, how many times have we all done just that in a similar situation and it has been the correct fix.

There may well be other issues and other parts that failed but you cannot know that from the limited info provided and because the individual refused to elaborate on the problem. I think the likely additional issue was the ability of the individual to correctly install the board and to correctly start up the range.

The amazing thing to me is that given the large number of people who query on this site this type of response does not happen more often. That it does not I think is a reflection of (1) the quality of the diagnosis that is done, (2) the correctness of the suggested repair and (3) the understanding by those who made the inquiry that a remote diagnosis based on limited information without ever seeing the machine cannot not carry a 100% guarantee of success. In this case you had two out of three.

For what it’s worth I thought Denman’s post was superb

In retrospect, perhaps we should allways, (when the diagnosis is a electronic module replacement), remind the customer to make a diagram that shows the correct wireing ie., which colored wires go to where!

I have a Maytag MSD2456GEQ side-by-side. I have been having the same problem, freezer working but refrigerator not working. There was no air coming into refrigerator section. Everytime I would defrost the freezer, the refrigerator side would work for a few days, then the air would stop flowing through again. This time I opened up the back panel of the freezer and found the coils were frosted up. From this thread it looks like most likely it is the defrost system. Is this something I can fix on my own? What parts will I specifically need? and where in the appliance are these parts located?

Please help!!!

have kenmore 970560970 snf freezer works but ref does not. Coils are freezing after a few days and then there is no air flow. My question is how to determine if its the timer, thermostat or heater.
Thanks

The model number you posted does not come up. Verify and repost it.

I have an Amana bottom freezer ARB2214CW - about 8 years old. Had same problem. Fridge died but freezer is just fine.

Repair tech out yesterday showed me frozen freezer coils and replaced thermostat (said heater was fine). Could see thermostat housing had swelled and ruptured. Bottom coils under the fridge are clean. Still, 15 hours post repair fridge temp is not at all improved.

I have to drop another lump of cash on a repair visit - any ideas for parts I can replace myself? Just seems like cold air is not moving into the fridge and I suspect some kind of fan or motor problem but what are the odds both fan and thermostat would fail simultaneously?

The problem is not solved, the diagnostic is not done properly - why do you have to pay?
