Barely over a year old GE washer wont spin/agitate. Washer has been doing fine, no noticable problems by the wife, no noise, nothing of that nature until this current load of clothes, it just quit completely agitating or spinning. Water fills fine, pumps out fine. Belt is good and tight, motor/pulleys spin freely, lid switch seems fine? No indicator light flashing whatsoever on motor, which by the service tech notes, means a bad motor? is this correct? thanks for the help guys, im a noobie when it comes to washer repair.
Yes shorting across the switch would be the way to check it.
Unless GE has done something stupid and has an open switch indicate a closed lid, but it is GE so you can never tell.
I will look to see if I can find some more info for you.
If you do not have the tech sheet wiring diagram check in the control console, they like to hide things in there.
i do have the tech sheet, but didnt go through it very well yet, as i am posting from work today. Last night i did check to see if the LED was doing anything near the motor like the tech sheet says, but no LED is blinking at all.
the tech notes say:
ON 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8 FLASH ERRORS IF NO SYSTEM FAILUTRES ARE FOUND, REPLACE MOTOR.
now correct me if i am wrong, but since i dont have ANY lights flashing, wouldnt that mean the motor is bad? 1, 3, and 9 flashes all lead to the motor also, but im not getting anything at all. hope that helps.
The inline fuse may be bad, it is on the white/red wire coming off the motor, and up the right side. It is inside the wire bundle behind the black electrical tape. Undo the tape, and you will see the heatshrink.
Unfortunatly yes, do yourself a favor, if you fix it yourself order the belt installation tool, you can get it from geappliances.com, Part# WX05x10102 $14.75. It will save you some bloody knuckles, trust me on this one.
i got the motor on the way already, so we will see how it does. I agree that it didnt last long, and that does seem to be the trend with this model from what i have read in reviews. If it happens again, it will go out the door, haha!
 …this washer was rated a BEST BUY at consumer reports!!! Man did they ever get that one wrong! My spin/agitator is also not working. Machine is now just 2 years old.
